Track 1: Critical Infrastucture Planning and Protection (CI)

Session CI-4: Blending Physical and Cyber Security for CIP

March 24, 2010

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Prerequisite: None

As cyber systems become smarter, critical infrastructure interdependencies and vulnerabilities become both more apparent and critical. Old models of separate physical security and cyber security departments with competing values, contributions, reporting structures and budgets can no longer be the norm. Instead, the new environment requires a holistic blending of both physical and cyber security - a convergence - to be the new mindset. This panel discussion will explore recent examples of blended threats and attacks to critical infrastructure, identifying interdependencies, creating partnerships in the critical infrastructure community to enhance situational awareness, using cyber security to enhance physical security and vice versa and developing a holistic approach to security to solidify business continuity and improve overall security.

What You Will Learn:

  • What the blended threats to critical infrastructure are
  • The actions taken within the critical infrastructure community surrounding convergence
  • What future trends regarding the blending of critical infrastructure physical and cyber security will be
