Bruce A. Davis, Ph.D.

Dr. Bruce Davis is currently a Senior Program Manager in the Science and Technology Directorate of the Department of Homeland Security. In this role he leads an initiative focused on the use earth observing remote sensing and geographic information science for improved infrastructure protection and disaster management. Dr. Davis also currently serves as the DHS S&T representative to the OSTP Subcommittee on Disaster Reduction and the US Group on Earth Observations.

Prior to this Dr. Davis helped establish the Interagency Modeling and Atmospheric Assessment Center (IMAAC) to coordinate the federal respond to atmospheric hazards. Dr. Davis served as the Director of IMAAC from 2004 to 2009. Prior to serving as Director of IMAAC Dr. Davis served as the Deputy Program Manager for Homeland Security and Natural Disaster Applications in NASA's Applied Science Program. During his 22 years at NASA Stennis Space Center Dr. Davis has served as the Chief Scientist for of the Commercial Remote Sensing Program which worked with over 300 US companies to incorporate remote sensing technologies into commercial products and services. While serving in the Commercial Remote Sensing Program, Dr. Davis created and managed the Affiliated Research Program that utilized university research capacity to prototype new products with private sector partners. During this time Dr. Davis also served on the Source Evaluation Board and the Science Validation Team of NASA’s Lewis and Clark earth observations missions. Over the past 17 years Dr. Davis has used remote sensing and GIS technologies to improve the nation’s response to natural disasters and terrorists events including Hurricanes Andrew, Floyd, and Isabel, the Mississippi and Missouri River floods, the attack on the World Trade Center, the Shuttle Columbia Response effort, and most recently served as the Coordinator for Remote Sensing to FEMA for the Eastern Division of Hurricane Katrina Response and Recovery.
