School and Campus Safety Training Coordinator

Shellie MacKenzie serves as the School and Campus Safety Training Coordinator for the Department of Criminal Justice Services and the Virginia Center for School Safety. She has developed and facilitated numerous trainings in all areas of K-12 safety including anti-bullying, crisis and emergency planning gang prevention and awareness, human trafficking, suicide prevention, threat assessment, and legal issues. Before coming to DCJS Ms. MacKenzie spent 16 years in public education where she was responsible for emergency planning, policy and protocols, and safety related training. After successful coordination of Hanover County’s Readiness and Emergency Planning for schools grant, certification as an Incident Command System (ICS) Instructor and Liaison Officer, she began mentoring other school divisions desiring to enhance safety and emergency planning protocols. Ms. MacKenzie’s resume includes planning and facilitation of 17 all-hazards exercises, tabletops, functional and full scale, as well as over thirty crisis team building and specialized training sessions for school system personnel and first responders. She is certified as Master Exercise Practitioner (MEP), has a BA in Business from Averett University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Norwich University.
