May 12, 2014

9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Gregory Scott Bennett, MA

Middlesex County Sheriff's Office (NJ) Retired

Police officers in every state are sent to reports of structure fires, incidents involving hazardous materials, hybrid vehicles, solar power emergencies and similar hazards. These calls are generally handled by other responders, yet police are often first to arrive. If not handled properly and safely, serious injury or worse is possible. This course will address survival tactics for use by street officers at all of these types of incidents. The course will present case studies, scenarios, training resources and videos designed to promote awareness and survival skills needed by police.

Session Learning Objectives:

  • The course will demonstrate to police how to survive if they are dispatched to working fires via videos and case studies.
  • The course will provide resources and strategies for responses to hazardous materials incidents.
  • The course will provide an overview for safe tactics for responding to calls typically handled by other emergency responders, such as fire crews and hazardous materials technicians.
