The Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN) is the nation's focal point for sharing Sensitive but Unclassified information. Learn how HSIN enables Federal, State, local, tribal, territorial, international, and private sector homeland security partners to achieve mission success through its network of trusted members.

A tool for law enforcement, emergency response, intelligence sharing, and infrastructure protection, this Department of Homeland Security-funded network has provided situational awareness in environmental disasters such as the Deep Water Horizon oil spill, major events such as Super Bowls and the National Scout Jamboree, and during major incident responses like the Boston Marathon bombing investigation.

HSIN is in everyday use in state intelligence fusion centers, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA), US Coast Guard regions, and federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies across the country. It provides web conferencing, secure messaging, chat room, geospatial mapping, event and incident management templates, and robust document-sharing tools - all in an internet environment secured by identity proofing and account management processes. All communities in HSIN self-administer their workspaces with technical and mission support provided by a team of dedicated DHS employees. If you're not a member of HSIN now, you should be. The nation needs your participation.

Participants will learn:

  1. How information-sharing is key to protecting the homeland from all threats.
  2. Best practices for creating cross-mission communities that leverage all homeland security disciplines.
  3. How to make HSIN work effectively to both collaborate in a crisis and monitor steady state activities.
