GovSec 2013 Conference to Address Lack of Adequate Campus Security

We have all witnessed the unfortunate number of shootings and other tragic campus incidents nationwide that seem to occur without any warning. The alarming number and frequency of these incidents has brought to light the lack of adequate security systems in place at many schools and universities and the need for school administrators,

emergency managers, and security personnel to create and maintain a safer campus environment.

GovSec 2013 will address these critical issues with the Campus Security & Life Safety Education program.

Taking place May 13-15, in Washington, DC at GovSec 2013, the Campus Security & Safety Education Track will feature insightful presentations from security experts and leaders from both public and private institutions at all levels who will present critical insights on the key strategies, best practices and case studies for effectively preparing, preventing and responding to threats to students, facility, administration and on campus staff.

The Campus Security & Life Safety sessions will address a number of topics including:

  • - School Security: Illusion vs. Reality
  • - School Safety: Five High Liability Issues for K-12 Public Schools
  • - Vital Data to Support Security and Emergency Response: The Use of Digital Mapping for Critical Decision Making
  • - Emerging Issues in School Safety: Lockdown Enhancements, Threat Assessment Management, and The Role of Social Media in School Crisis Response
  • - And more!

One of the highlights of the GovSec 2013 Campus Security & Safety Conference will be The Clery Act Review and Best Practices, Techniques & Tactics To Increase Compliance workshop. This half-day workshop will present an overview of lessons learned from past situations and how to improve campus compliance, security and safety. Attendees will also learn techniques and tactics on how to increase compliance with the Clery Act, as well as the Department of Education, to determine what is required under the law. In addition, the workshop will highlight critical discussions that involve initial investigations, how to handle employees, students, faculty, board and the media.
