Special Agent John F. Oakey is the Branch Chief of the Firearms Operations Division’s Frontline Branch. Oakey has been with the Frontline Branch since October 2012 and in his present position since September 2013. He began his career with ATF in 2003 and previously served as a Special Agent in the Richmond Group III (VCIT) Field Office, where he was a recipient of the ATF Distinguished Service Medal in 2007, in recognition for the Field Office’s success in the VCIT program. In July 2010, Oakey reported to the Baltimore Field Division, where he served as a member of the Baltimore Group III (VCIT) and Group II (HIDTA) Field Offices. In addition, Oakey was selected to serve as the Acting Division Operations Officer of the Baltimore Field Division, prior to his selection as Program Manager to the Firearms Operation Division in October 2012. Prior to joining ATF, Oakey served as a Detective and Police Officer with the Chesapeake (VA) Police Department for over 8 years. He also retired in October 2013 as a (prior enlisted: Mustang) commissioned officer with the United States Navy after 26 years of service. Oakey holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Old Dominion University.
