Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT), Texas State University-San Marcos
Terry Nichols is the Assistant Director of the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center (ALERRT) at Texas State University. Terry retired from the San Marcos Police Department at the rank of Commander in January 2010 after serving 21 years with the Department. His last assignment included commanding the Criminal Investigation Division as well as the Hays County SWAT Team where he served for over 10 years. Terry worked numerous assignments for the Department over his career including patrol, narcotics, training and administration.
During his tenure in the Training Division, Terry led the development and creation of the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center (ALERRT) in San Marcos. Terry instructs police tactics across the United States as well as Brazil and frequently speaks at national and international conferences. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree (’91) and Master of Science Degree (’97) from Southwest Texas State University and is the co-author of the textbook “Active Shooter Events and Response” released by CRC Press in June 2013.
