Lieutenant Joseph M. Sparrow

Commander, FWPD School Security Initiative Unit
Fort Worth Police Department

Lieutenant Joseph M. Sparrow is an eighteen year veteran of the Fort Worth Police Department. He is currently assigned as commander of the FWPD School Security Initiative Unit. The function of the School Security Initiative Section (SSI) is to work in coordination with school administrators as School Resource Officers (SRO’s) in an effort to provide a safe environment in the schools that contract with the police department for SRO services located in the City of Fort Worth.

Before going to SSI, he worked as the commander of the FWPD Gang Unit and commander of Neighborhood Policing District 4 (NPD 4). In 2006 while at NPD 4, he was awarded the Fort Worth Police Department’s Commander of the Year because of an overall drop in crime of 14% in that district through the innovative usage of a citizen/police partnership. Lieutenant Sparrow has earned a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and is currently working on a Doctor of Ministry degree from that same institution.
